Mohamad Lotfy Showcase

This gallery highlights the work that I have completed throughout the Master of Arts in Education at Michigan State University. The following are examples of skills that I have received in three different areas in the master’s program. I have broken down the classes that I have taken into three showcases, which are leadership, teaching, and coaching. In each area you will see examples of cases, research projects, or essays that serve as examples of the knowledge and skills that I have acquired. I believe what I have and will continue to learn in leadership, teaching, and coaching will all contribute to me becoming the best educator that I can be for my students. This gallery serves to show the passion that I have for education and life-long learning. Please click on the picture or description in order to access a link to my work. I hope you enjoy.

This paper discusses the two main factors that I believe contributed to the Racial Achievement Gap, which are parental involvement and cultural factors. I examine the reasons these factors have been critical in contributing to the racial achievement gap. I then provide solutions for improving upon these issues in hopes of reducing the racial achievement gap.

This research paper focuses on the importance of community as well as parental integration in students' academic success. I assess the reasons for the lack of community and parental involvment and offer solutions for overcoming these obstacles. I argue that the greater the involvement of the community, especially the, parents, the more likely the child is able to achieve academic success.

The paper discusses a text called Cultivating Leadership in Schools by Gordon A. Donaldson. The book had a real impact on how I currently view leadership. In the paper I argue that the shared leadership model presented by Donaldson is superior to the more traditional singular model of relationship.I also discuss some of the obstacles that may arise when trying to implement a culture of shared leadership.

For this paper I created a technology plan that would use class websites as a tool to keep parents informed about their child's academic progress. It would also serve as mode of communication for parents and students to get a hold of the instructor in the event that they would have any questions. The plan also examines the issues that keep parents from being involved in school, and offers solutions for how we can overcome these obstacles by creating class websites.

In this paper I write about my ideal vision of the dream classroom. There are three areas, which I specifically highlight and they are classroom aesthetics, children's attitudes, and a curriculum that challenges the students thinking. While, my pursuit of the dream classroom may never be achieved, I now realize more than ever that it is a dream that is worth striving to achieve.

I created this website to be a very interactive site designed to allow students to explore the internet for sources of information regarding the Civil War. The course is also set up to for parents to gain access in order to review their child's classwork, homework, and view their grades. I also incorporated group discussion boards so that students have the ability to discuss Civil War topics with each other. I was excited about this project because I plan on using this site in the classroom.

This is a motivational case that I conducted on one my employees instead of a student because I am currently not a teacher. Implementing my plan with an employee, however, showed me that people in all walks of life have motivational issues. In this case I used various strategies to help my employee deal with motivational issues that have been hindering her advancement. I also used this case as an opportunity to assess how the other managers dealt with our unmotivated employee.

I created this project as a Sports program that is geared to reflect the ideal that sports should be used to positively influence the lives of young children. The program I designed recognizes that winning is a secondary goal and the main focus is helping young people become quality citizens through the lessons they learn on the court.

This showcase is designed to introduce you to the coursework that has contributed to the advancement of my leadership skills. I feel extemely fortunate to have gained leadership knowledge in diverse areas such as technology, urban education, and shared leadership in schools.

This showcase introduces you to courses that I took in order to improve my overall teaching skills. I choose to focus on social studies because that is the subject matter that I hope to teach in the future. CEP 802 was a course I selected because it made me aware of the motivational issues that I may encounter in the classroom.

This showcase is intended to highlight the coaching course that I took during my time in the program. While I was only able to take one course in regards to coaching, I look forward to taking more in the future. I believe coaches can have a tremendous impact on students' lives as long as they maintain their focus on building life skills instead of winning.
